About the site
Hi! Welcome to my blog and personal portfolio. I'm very happy that you're here. I’d like to take the time to introduce myself. This introduction would be too long if I spoke about my entire life (one of my toxic traits is adding way too many details), and the story would be bleak (because besides a few highlights in my life, I consider my life to be somewhat… boring?). However, aspects of my personal life will be revealed as time goes on, but for now, we can start at my name, which is Ashley, but you can call me Ash. Allow me to give a few disclaimers about my work.
1. My stories comprise different genres of creative writing. I’ve had an obsession with fictional writing, but after participating in several workshops that have taken me out of my comfort zone, I have decided to publish creative nonfiction stories, as well as a few pieces of poetry (even though I do not consider myself to be a poet).
2. As it relates to fiction, I conjure the ideas for my stories based on brief, occasional, pessimistic thoughts on a particular subject. However, I am not a pessimist. I view my life through an optimistic lens the majority of the time, but I tend to use writing as a means of expressing and illustrating the few negative thoughts that I have. As a result, most of my writing is dark, depressing and somewhat disturbing (depending on the subject matter). There will be positive stories from time to time though.
3. As it relates to creative nonfiction, I have learned to love this genre of writing because I have learned to make vivid, beautiful descriptions of the mundane. I have taken the time to analyse my life and in retelling specific moments, in speaking my truth through creative expression, I have found beauty in my life, a beauty that I am so happy to share with my tiny army of supporters. I hope to evoke feelings and emotional reactions from readers based on my small triumphs and big mistakes.
4. My writing is secular. I am a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist community and, by extension, the Christian church, but my writing is rooted in common, secular world experiences, which, at times, are graphic, immoral and do not follow the straight and narrow (to put it mildly). I am not using my writing as a vehicle for evangelism, but I will use my blog specifically for inspirational personal anecdotes when and where I see fit. I will also use trigger warnings at the beginning of my stories for the sake of my audience members who may find certain topics hard to read.
5. I am open to criticism. If you have compliments, complaints, queries, critical thoughts etc., I welcome all of it. I am an amateur and my writing will only improve if you give me feedback. Please feel free to write a comment, email me or send me a message via Instagram or Facebook. Links are provided below!
